Food Suggestions: For meals during the trail, we recommend the following options:

  • Dehydrated food for dinners (easy preparation, allowing more time to enjoy the evenings)
  • Lightweight and high-energy food options for breakfasts (cereal, rusks, bars)
  • Hot drink sachets (coffee, tea) or portable coffee makers for a treat
  • Lunch options: cheese and biscuits, tuna, cucumber, rice cakes, peppers, onions (fresh items that last well)
  • Trail mix and/or biltong for snacking during walks or breaks

Packing Advice: To optimize your backpack’s weight distribution and ease of access:

  • Measure and pack the right amount of food and equipment in advance.
  • Separate your food from clothing and equipment, placing it in a separate packet or lightweight bag within your backpack.
  • Pack as much as possible inside your backpack, securing items like the mat, slops, and water bottles on the outside.
  • Conduct a practice pack and carry beforehand to test the setup and adjust the straps for balance.
